Don’t call it a sequel to Forbidden Door, but All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro-Wrestling are reportedly expected to collaborate at NJPW’s biggest show of the year.
AEW will reportedly be involved at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reports that plans are in place for “certain AEW guys to be at” NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17.
Meltzer noted that he’s not sure how many AEW wrestlers will be on the show, but he has been informed of the plans for them to appear on it.
Wrestle Kingdom 17 will likely kick off on Wednesday, January 4, 2023; referencing the overlap with AEW Dynamite, Meltzer noted that he doesn’t think AEW will tape the show ahead of time, but the plans call for specific talents in question will be at Wrestle Kingdom.
In 2022, Wrestle Kingdom was a three-night event that began on January 4. NJPW has not officially announced the date for next year’s show yet.
AEW continues to work with NJPW in a number of ways; they hosted the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view together in June. Plus, Wheeler Yuta and Lance Archer respectively competed in the Best of the Super Juniors and G1 Climax 32 tournaments.
Indy Pro Wrestling will provide more information as it becomes available.
