Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful is reporting that there were several reasons behind Eli Drake‘s abrupt firing from IMPACT Wrestling back in April.
According to Sapp, one of the final straws did indeed end up being Drake’s refusal to work an inter-gender match with Tessa Blanchard. Initially believed by many to be a work, the matter ended up being very much a shoot and both parties of Blanchard and Drake weren’t made aware of the match being made until it was announced (it was originally set to be Moose, but he refused).
Drake reportedly had heat with management, including Scott D’Amore but there happened to be other reasons that culminated into Drake being let go from the company.
According to a source, Drake’s statement that he was “written into oblivion” by the writing team (made on an episode of Wrestling Perspective Podcast) made many feel that was not favorable to the staff. In addition to that, a reference back to the inter-gender situation was made where Drake also stated that Killer Kross would destroy Jordynne Grace in a fight. All this reportedly led to Drake getting fired via email.
Finally, Fightful is being told that IMPACT is trying to lock Drake down in a one-year non-compete due to the termination.
