For quite some time it has been rumored that Edge would be returning to WWE in time for the Royal Rumble. We haven't seen Edge in action since April 3rd, 2011 at Wrestlemania XXVII when he successfully defended the WWE World Heavyweight Title against Alberto Del Rio. Two nights later we would get the devastating announcement that Edge was forced to retire due to stenosis of the spine.
With sources telling indypw.com that Edge is cleared to return, here are a few of the rumored plans upon his return. With Brock Lesnar set to debut at number one at this years Royal Rumble match, the booking of this is by design to possibly bookend the excitement of the match and hook the audience into watching the Pay Per View, and while the big story of the Royal Rumble match has been Brock being at number one and with his appearances on Raw this month leading into the Royal Rumble, WWE seems to be keeping the story of him being number as a distraction to not focus on who will be as a later entrant to the match. Enter Edge.
Edge is rumored to be anywhere between the 20th-30th entrant of the match, with number thirty to be the odds on favorite for him to return. Edge would find himself helping out Randy Orton, his former Rated RKO tag partner and take out the Club who would find themselves nearly eliminating Orton out of the Royal Rumble match. This would set up a later tag match between Rated RKO and The Club possibly in Saudi Arabia. It's rumored that soon after the match, Orton would turn on Edge, setting up the return of The Legend Killer, Randy Orton, and face Edge at Wrestlemania 36, a match which would be Edges last.
Another rumor has Edge coming in at number thirty, but while not winning the rumble, Baron Corbin or another up and coming superstar with a prominent role in WWE, would eliminate Edge. A program would be set up between Corbin and Edge leading into a match between the two at Wrestlemania 36. It's worth noting that Edge while returning to the Rumble, is not booked to win the Royal Rumble match itself. Another rumor has Edge possibly facing John Cena at Wrestlemania 36 as the two have had a long history with each other, stemming back to Edge's first World title victory after cashing in the Money In The Bank briefcase.
